Up until now I hae only had a very cheap tripod that was on its last leg, so to speak, due to the fact that I lost a screw during my vacation in Portugal. Since then it wouldn’t hold the camera steadily. Since I’m seldomly using a tripod, I hadn’t bothered buying a new one yet but now my best friend asked me to photograph her wedding. For this I know that I will need a tripod, because I am determinded to do my best to make wonderful pictures for her (if you have any tips for me on wedding photography, please feel free to post a comment or send me an email, it would be greatly appreciated).
So with the resolve to buy a tripod I started researching on the Internet. In the last few months I had also read several reviews in magazines, so I already had at least a little knowledge of what I wanted to get: A quality tripod that will last me a lot of years, not too heavy but sturdy enough that I won’t get buyer’s remorse and long enough that I won’t have to crouch behind it to take a photograph (for one, it looks very funny if a photographer is crouching behind such a tripod and for another, my knees are not really the best as it is). Additionally, due to the reviews, I was pretty sure that I wanted to get a Manfrotto tripod and tripod head, since they always get pretty good reviews and the brand has been around for a lot of years.
With these resolutions in my mind, I went to my local photography shop – I love going there because they are always very helpful and all of them are avid photographers, so they know what they are talking about and will oftentimes have used a specific product before. Especially in a case like mine, where I was not sure what I needed/wanted, their help is priceless.
With their help I decided to get a kit by Manfrotto: The 055XPROB tripod and the 840RC2 tripod head (that’s a three-way head). Especially the tripod is very versatile and will be great for a multidue of usages. I can’t wait to test it 😀
